About

I have long imagined another vegetal world growing outside the temporality of reality. These are beings we cannot see, or cannot name even when we do see them. They evade the gaze of reason, yet quietly and stubbornly continue to expand their own territory. I began to cal them Paralel Plants’. From a distance, they resemble familiar botanical forms. Yet up close, their contours subtly waver, and where material certainty dissolves, another sense of presence emerges. Among these beings suspended between presence and absence are plants that resist the linear flow of time. I cal them ‘Achronian Plants’, plants of no time. They grow within a nonlinear rhythm where past, present, and future overlap within a single plane. These speculative life forms arise from smal clues borrowed from real plant morphology,

layered with residues of myth, memory, and narrative. Through the alchemical process of ceramics, where earth, water, and fire converge, I summon this imagined world into physical reality. The slow transformation of clay, breaking down and hardening again, mirrors the mode of existence of these achronian plants. My practice has also been shaped by experiencing different velocities of time. Living between the slow breathing of nature and the accelerated rhythm of the city, I have sought a balance between these two worlds. While walking in nature, threads of thought gradualy unraveled, and the question of how to live began to take form at a

similarly slow pace. During my time in Brussels, I encountered another form of vegetal life, not in forests or soil, but on architectural façades. The curves of Art Nouveau flowed across wals and branched like plants; the lines of iron railings and window frames intertwined to create their own rhythm. Those lines appeared at once ornamental and structural. It was then that I realized the principle of growth I had been seeking in plants was already active on the surface of architecture. Since then, ornament has no longer appeared to me as something merely added, but as a force

that organizes the direction in which form grows. Returning to the residential environments of Korea, I felt not only what had disappeared, but what rhythms had been emptied out. Within repetitive structures, space felt stable, yet traces of formative emergence were difficult to perceive. Ceramics functions for me as a medium through which to think architecture without constructing it directly. Clay does not conceal gravity or pressure; it reveals the time of making in ful. Through ceramic material, I experiment with branching, repetition, and flowing curves, investigating how ornament can organize form through matter itself. My research is not an attempt to reproduce Art Nouveau, but rather to trace, through contemporary sensibility, the

structures of thought through which ornament once generated form. The façade is not merely a surface, but a field where perception is organized, and where structure and ornament continualy produce one another. How does form grow? And how does that growth transform our perception of space? By folowing the slow temporality of becoming, I quietly imagine another space where nature, architecture, and speculation meet once again.
