In contemporary Korean society, nearly every aspect of life is stratified within a competition-centered structure. Academic achievement, employment, and even everyday choices are transformed into objects of comparison and evaluation under the symbolic value of being “number one.” As a result, individuals are compelled to objectify themselves and constantly prove their existence within a framework of relative worth. The educational sphere, in particular, is where such social pressures operate most directly. From an early age, the prevalence of excessive private education and an exam-oriented culture instills in students the belief that only victory and achievement hold meaningful value. Ultimately, this leads to profound distortions in the process of identity formation. Grounded in this awareness, the present study reconsiders the discourse of competition by reflecting on what we should truly commemorate.

오늘날 한국 사회는 경쟁 중심의 구조 속에서 삶의 거의 모든 영역을 서열화하고 있다. 학업, 취업, 심지어 일상적인 선택조차도 ‘1등’이라는 상징 아래 비교와 평가의 대상으로 전환되며, 이에 따라 개인은 스스로를 타자화하고 끊임없이 상대적 가치 속에서 존재를 입증해야 한다. 특히 교육 현장은 이러한 사회적 강박이 가장 직접적으로 작동하는 공간이다. 유년기부터 시작되는 과도한 사교육과 입시 중심의 문화는 학생들에게 승리와 성취만이 의미 있는 가치라는 인식을 내면화시키고, 이는 결국 자아 형성 과정에 있어 심각한 왜곡을 초래한다. 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 본 연구는 우리가 무엇을 진정으로 기념해야 하는지에 대한 고민을 통해 경쟁 중심의 담론을 재고찰하였다
