I construct images on ceramic surfaces through a pointillist inlay technique inspired by hand-poked tattooing. By repeatedly incising dots into a leather-hard surface and filling them with colored slip, I build forms and compositions through the accumulation of countless marks.

 

The dragon serves as the primary motif in my work. Traditionally regarded as a symbol of authority and protection, the dragon is reinterpreted here as a contemporary symbol that embodies personal experiences, emotions, and social relationships. Within my work, the dragon functions as a visual metaphor for inner states such as anxiety, solitude, competition, and desire.

 

The repetitive act of engraving and filling each dot is both a performative and accumulative process. Just as small dots come together to form a larger image, my work reflects the layered narratives that emerge through the accumulation of personal experiences and emotions. Through this process, I seek to expand the ceramic surface beyond a decorative plane into a space where image, narrative, and materiality coexist.

 

타투의 핸드포크 기법에서 착안한 점묘상감기법을 활용해 도자 표면 위에 이미지를 구축한다. 반건조 상태의 표면에 점을 새기고 화장토를 채워 넣는 과정을 반복하며, 점의 축적을 통해 형상과 화면을 구성한다. 

 

작업의 주요 소재는 용(龍)이다. 전통적으로 용은 권위와 수호를 상징하는 존재이지만, 본 작업에서는 개인의 경험과 감정, 사회적 관계를 담아내는 동시대적 상징으로 재해석된다. 작품 속 용은 불안, 고독, 경쟁, 욕망과 같은 내면의 상태를 드러내는 매개체로 작용한다. 

 

점을 하나씩 새기고 채워 넣는 반복적인 과정은 수행적 행위이자 축적의 과정이다. 작은 점들이 모여 하나의 형상을 이루듯, 작업은 개인의 경험과 감정이 쌓여 형성되는 내면의 서사를 담아낸다. 이를 통해 도자 표면을 단순한 장식의 영역이 아닌 이미지와 서사가 공존하는 표현 공간으로 확장하고자 한다.
