My work is a process of inscribing stories in dots and lines using the surface of ceramics as a canvas.

Combining pointillist techniques with traditional marquetry, I experiment with the way small dots come together to form a single shape, and the frequency and depth of the dots create detail and depth on the surface.

In this process, I create 'wounds' in the clay and fill them with clay to convey a message of healing and recovery through the repetitive act of filling the wounds with clay. Just as everyday wounds heal and leave traces over time, the dots carved into the surface of the ceramics become traces of my own story and expand into a new narrative.

The “dragon” in the work is a symbolic creature with a modern interpretation. Traditionally, the dragon symbolizes protection and authority, but for me, it is also a symbol of personal overcoming. I once lacked self-confidence, but working with dragon imagery helped me regain my faith in myself and my presence. My process, which is similar to the way a tattoo is dotted, reflects my desire to be strong, and by visualizing this on the surface of ceramics, I am creating a new form that is both traditional and contemporary.

In the end, my work resembles the process of developing myself by accumulating small changes and efforts, just as the small dots on the surface come together to form one large shape. I hope that this work will also bring the viewer a little healing, comfort, and a reminder of their own stories.

내 작업은 도자 표면을 캔버스 삼아 점과 선으로 이야기를 새기는 과정이다.

점묘화적 기법과 전통 상감 기법을 결합해 작은 점들이 모여 하나의 형상을 이루는 방식을 실험하며, 점의 빈도와 깊이에 따라 표면의 디테일과 깊이를 표현하고 있다.

이 과정에서 나는 흙에 ‘상처’를 내고, 그 상처를 화장토로 채워넣는 반복적 행위를 통해 치유와 회복의 메시지를 담는다. 마치 일상의 상처가 시간이 지나면서 아물고 흔적으로 남는 것처럼, 도자 표면에 새겨진 점들은 나만의 이야기를 담은 흔적이자 새로운 서사로 확장된다.

작품에 담긴 ‘용(龍)’은 상징적 존재로서 현대적 해석을 담고 있다. 전통적으로 용은 수호와 권위를 상징하지만, 나에게는 개인적인 극복의 상징이기도 하다. 나는 한때 자신감이 부족했지만, 용 이미지를 작업하며 나 자신에 대한 믿음과 존재감을 회복할 수 있었다. 타투의 점을 찍는 방식과 흡사한 작업 과정은 강해지고 싶은 내 바람을 담고 있으며, 이를 도자 표면에 시각화함으로써 전통과 현대적 감각이 공존하는 새로운 형태를 만들어가고 있다.

결국 내 작업은 표면 위의 작은 점들이 모여 하나의 거대한 형상을 이루는 것처럼, 작은 변화와 노력이 쌓여 나 자신을 발전시키는 과정과 닮아 있다. 나는 이 작품이 관람자에게도 작은 치유와 위로, 그리고 자신만의 이야기를 떠올리게 하는 계기가 되기를 바란다.
