About
Maeng Wookjae explores the relationships between humans and non-human entities such as nature and objects in contemporary society. Through ceramic installations composed of slip-cast white porcelain objects and various media, his work sheds light on the relationship between humans and the ecosystem.
Maeng has received significant attention both in Korea and internationally for his works addressing the coexistence of ecosystems. He has participated in numerous international biennials, including the British Ceramics Biennial (2019), the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale (2018), and the Vallauris International Biennale of Ceramics in France (2016). He received the Excellence Prize at the Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale Competition (2019), and has taken part in residency programs at institutions including the International Ceramic Studio in Hungary, the International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark, The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada, and the Archie Bray Foundation in the United States. His works are included in the collections of the National Folk Museum of Korea and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.
